The 2013 Roundup

Here we are at the end of another year of incredible eating. This year has brought so many openings – both in the Cheap Eats range and above – and Auckland has become an even more wonderful place to dine.

Here are the Cheap Eats team’s top picks for 2013:

May-Lee, our fabulous guest reviewer is becoming a regular face on Cheap Eats. We can’t get enough of her well-written, enthusiastic reviews and deep passion for seeking out great food. This year her top picks were Petra Shawarma, Late Night Diner, Nol Bu Ne and Cafe Abyssinia.

Alexia loved Cafe Abyssinia too. She also highly rated @Bangkok for Thai, Xi’an Food Bar for Northern Chinese, The Lucky Taco for Mexican Street Food, and Ramen Takara for some of the best Japanese in town – well worth the drive to Brown’s Bay.

Lynn and Alexia both loved Food Truck Garage’s creativity, fun and great taste and Lynn, like May-Lee, also fell in love with Petra Shawarma. She found joy in New Flavour’s dumplings, Ela Cuisine’s South Indian delights and said she would cross the harbour bridge much more regularly now for the Flaming Onion’s burgers and onion rings. She also thought Miss Pings was a great fun summer pop up.

We’ve loved bringing you our cheap and cheerful finds this year and can’t wait to discover more in 2014. Have a fun and safe new year and make sure you let us know if you find any more hidden gems over the holidays. We’re away for a few weeks and will be back mid-January, forks and chopsticks at the ready.

Happy New Year from Lynn, Alexia and May-Lee
