Cheap Eats Extra – Crafty Baker

Sorry we’ve been a bit quiet. It’s been a busy few weeks and Lynn has been in Canada. This is just a quick post about a recent discovery out West. It’s not a restaurant but a lovely bakery run by some really clever (and thoroughly charming) people.
Lee and Calli Morgan are a lovely English couple who run this little gem in the middle of Glen Eden. Lee has been baking since he was fourteen and there isn’t a lot he doesn’t know about bread, pies, pastries and cakes.
Check out the pies ($5). Made with Zany Zeus organic sour cream, organic butter (which they churn themselves onsite from organic cream), flour and organic or free range meat, they are crazy good. And there is a great selection for vegetarians too.
We loved the Peanut Salted Caramel slice and the Sticky Toffee Date cake and so wished we’d had room to try more of their enticing looking (and very reasonably priced) sweet treats. The ciabatta was a steal for $5 and very, very good.
These guys are only open from Thursday to Sunday and you should get in sooner, rather than later in the day. People are going mad for their croissants and they’ve been known to sell out pretty early!

Thanks for the tip. Another place to try out. I had been going to the Swiss bakery on rosebank rd but this might be closer.
We love the Swiss Bakery too. Excellent almond croissants.
