We had heard about this “pocket rocket” of a restaurant some time ago and we finally tried it out on our way to a concert at the Vector Arena. This is a perfect cheap eats. The small restaurant has a short but interesting menu and the food is delicious. The décor is modern and the service is pleasant and prompt. What more can you ask for?
We started with the fresh summer rolls and opted for the classic shrimp and pork filling. The three rolls were plump and filled with raw veges and herbs and vermicelli noodles. This came with a thick hoisin dipping sauce.
I visited Vietnam last year and attended a cooking class where we made the savoury pancake, so I wanted to try that. The pancake is like a crispy thin omelette, stuffed with raw shredded vegetables. It was rather bland and needed the accompanying special dipping sauce poured over it. Our other dish was the lemongrass chicken curry, a rich flavoursome meal that disappeared very quickly.
The goal of Saigonz is to bring Vietnamese food to the masses, providing fantastic Vietnamese food at reasonable prices in a pleasant and relaxed environment. They have succeeded!
