Master Chinese Restaurant
Cruising the strip of shops on Queen’s Road in Panmure you would have no idea just how many good cheap places there are to eat. It’s not exactly a glamorous high street. We were really stuck for which one to choose with several Malaysian and some excellent Chinese on offer.
We finally settled on Master Chinese and are so glad we did. It’s definitely not going to win any awards for interior design, but it was bustling crazy busy on a Sunday night which had to be a good thing.
There were three of us so we ordered the Salted and Spiced King Prawns ($19), a half Roast Duck ($16) and Fried Combination Vegetables ($10). All the dishes we fantastic and extremely generous. The Prawns were lightly battered and served with finely chopped vegetables. The description couldn’t have been more spot on – they really were the perfect combination of salty and spicy and were completely addictive. The duck was tender and beautifully flavoured, served atop a mountain of rice and the combination veggies were standard Chinese restaurant style with the usual soy, cornflour, oyster sauce glaze. Always a winner and made us feel slightly better about the fat content of our other two dishes!
Traditional Chinese tea was served with the order (of course) and if you wanted to purchase non-alcoholic drinks you could help yourself to anything from the fridge in the takeaway waiting area at the front. Like we said, no awards here for style or design, but definitely accolades for food cooked and flavoured to perfection.
A final note on portions; some specialty dishes (duck and seafood) do creep over the $20 mark, but there is enough food on each plate to easily satisfy two decent appetites. The three of us waddled home without complaint.
