Henderson Night Markets
As a Westie (well not true Outrageous Fortune type) I was delighted to hear that we were getting our own night markets ten minutes from my place. They didn’t disappoint either. Housed under the K-Mart Car Park, close to Henderson Westcity Mall they were a great undercover venue for a Friday night feast, rain or shine.
We tried the Ribs from the American Freedom Food Stall ($12) and they were outrageously good with wonderful smokey flavour and fall-apart texture. We had Yum Cha style Prawn and Corriander dumplings ($5 for 6) and they were also excellent. The kids were more than happy with their salmon and avocado sushi (a bargain at $1 per piece) and the Okonomiyaki ($10) was also very tasty – although I would have liked it a little more traditional with finely chopped nori, katsuobushi (bonito flakes) and red ginger on top as well as the Kewpie Mayo and Barbecue sauce.
There was a great selection of Thai, Malay, Indian, Chinese, Greek and many others and I am keen to go back for the Korean Food, which looked outstanding. Lots of sweet options too: Frozen yoghurt, waffles, dutch pancakes, churros, gelato. We were very happy with our choice of Loukoumades, a divine light-as-air Greek style donut (but much lighter) drizzled in honey. Don’t go there without trying these.
So Westies, the search for good street food is finally over. Experience the cultural food diversity you’ve been missing at the night markets in Henderson. Soon.
