Frasers Café and Espresso Bar

There is rarely an hour of the day that Frasers is not busy. From piled breakfast feasts to late night desserts, the place is usually humming.   No liquor licence means that tables turn quickly, but many people linger over their coffees for a visit with their friends or to read the newspaper.

Fraser’s is one of the few cafes that makes most of their own baking and it is delicious.  It is worth a visit for dessert alone.  My favourite breakfast treat is one of the fresh-from-the-oven bran muffins (I eat half and save the other half for later – what is this café obsession with gigantic muffins?).  Coffee is Allpress and for some reason the coffee service can be slow.

You can start the day with a toasted bagel ($6.90) or more substantial offerings such as  cinnamon waffles (17.90) or their power breakfast ($19.90).  Lunch includes Cajun seasoned chicken sandwich ($19.90), Israeli couscous salad ($19.90) or gluten-free risotto balls ($18.50).

The evening menu which kicks in at 4pm is mostly around the $20 mark (hence its cheaps eats inclusion) with the sandwich, Israeli couscous salad, urban macaroni, traditional Caesar salad, Thai-style mussels and gluten-free risotto balls.  There are a few more expensive meatier options such as lamb shanks and steak.

This is a popular pre or post-theatre eating place, and I totally recommend it as an outing for a dessert treat of New York-style cheesecake, citron tart or banoffee pie.

Kids are catered for too with their own menu.
