We first reviewed Dragonfired in 2011, so thought it was high time we went back for a visit – Update Review, February, 2016:
Waiheke Island doesn’t have a lot of evening Cheapeats options, so thank goodness that the delicious food at Dragonfired at Little Oneroa is now also offered at a new second location at Palm Beach.
Dragonfired is known for its delicious, organic pizzas (base $12 plus toppings at $2 each). Also on offer are calzone ($10), organic pocket breads (vegetarian $10, Mexican beef ($14 and Greek lamb $14) and the Polenta Box ($14).
There were three of us eating dinner, so we could have tried three different dishes. However, I love the Polenta Box, and so does my friend, so we both ordered that. My friend’s daughter has a favourite pizza that she likes to order, so that was a quick decision.
Once we had placed our order with the friendly staff (many of them are from South America), we relaxed in the reserve overlooking Palm Beach. Our order was ready in 15 minutes and we hungrily tucked into our meals.
The pizza was truly tempting and topped with salami, Kalamata olives and mushrooms. It disappeared quickly so lived up to its reputation. A word of advice: since each extra topping costs $2, the cost of pizza quickly adds up!
The Polenta Box was not quite as good as I remembered, but still delicious. The polenta slices topped with feta had been roasted in the oven and were accompanied by refried beans, lettuce, olives, artichokes, capers and tomato salsa. You can see the photo of this meal in our 2011 review.
Enjoy your food on the beach or text ahead to pick up your order. Dragonfired is a must-visit Waiheke foodie destination whether you are a visitor to the Island or a local.
